Shopify integration guide
The "Able Software" app for the Shopify Admin API
What it does
The Able Platform gives your team an AI assistant that works with the tools you already use. Connecting Shopify lets the assistant read your store's own data — orders, products, inventory, fulfillment, locations, discounts and marketing events — so it can report, alert and answer questions for you.
The integration is read-only. It reads only the data of the store that authorized it, it never creates, edits, prices, fulfills, cancels or deletes anything in your Shopify admin, and it asks for no customer personal data — no name, email, phone or address fields and no customer-data scope; orders and products are read at Shopify's protected-customer-data Level 1, for store management and analytics only. Nothing it reads is ever sold, shared with third parties or used to train AI models.
Requirements
- An account on an Able Platform application (your organization's Able workspace), with an administrator to authorize the connection.
- A Shopify store, with permission to install apps on it.
Connect Shopify
- Install Able Software from the Shopify App Store on your store. Shopify opens its own permission screen listing the read-only access below — review it and click Install.
- Shopify brings you to an Almost done page. Enter your organization's Able workspace address — the web address your team signs in to, for example
acme.ablesoftware.io— and continue. - Sign in to that workspace as an administrator, then click Connect. Your store appears in Admin → Connections as Working — no keys to paste, and no store address to type. The whole step takes about a minute.
An administrator can also start this from Admin → Connections (/admin/connections): choose Shopify and open the App Store listing from there.
What Able reads
The connection requests eight read-only scopes and no write scope of any kind:
- read_orders
- your orders — totals, status, line items and fulfillment state, for sales reporting.
- read_products
- your product catalog and its variants.
- read_inventory
- stock levels across your locations.
- read_fulfillments
- fulfillment and shipment status on your orders.
- read_locations
- your store's locations and warehouses, to label inventory.
- read_price_rules
- your price rules — the configuration behind your discounts.
- read_discounts
- your discount codes and automatic discounts.
- read_marketing_events
- the marketing campaigns and events recorded in your store.
Every scope is read-only. The app requests no write_ permission — it cannot change orders, products, inventory, prices, discounts or anything else in your Shopify account.
Use it
Open the assistant with the AbleClaw button in the top bar (or the chat icon in the left rail) and ask in plain language, for example "how did sales look last week", "which products are low on stock", "show unfulfilled orders" or "what discounts are running right now". Larger reports are prepared on request, so they may take a moment to come back.
Remove it
- In Shopify: open Settings → Apps and sales channels, find "Able Software" and choose Uninstall. Uninstalling revokes the app's access immediately; Shopify notifies Able, which disables the connection so nothing further is read.
- In the Able Platform: open Admin → Connections, open the Shopify connection and choose Turn off or remove it. The stored access token is deleted, and the platform marks the connection disconnected.
Data handling
Each store's Shopify data is stored separately for that store's workspace. The access token is stored encrypted; data is encrypted in transit and at rest; it is used only to perform the task you asked for and is never sold, shared with third parties or used to train AI models. When you uninstall the app or redact the shop in Shopify, the platform deletes the stored access for that store; a customer data-request or redaction from Shopify is honoured within 30 days. Details are in our Privacy Policy; requests go to privacy@ablesoftware.io.
